Moroccan Mint Organic
In Morocco, mint tea is made by brewing gunpowder green tea together with fresh mint, and that is the idea I've recreated here: organic gunpowder green with peppermint. The green leaf does the quiet, important work. Mint on its own can taste a little thin and one-note, so the green sits underneath and gives it body, holding everything up. Brewed well you won't really taste the green at all, but it is there.
And that is rather the point. Because there is green tea in the cup, you get the health benefits green tea is known for, alongside peppermint, which has long been believed to aid digestion. So if you have always wanted green tea in your life but never got on with the flavour, this is the one for you: the good of the green tea, without the taste that put you off. It does mean there is caffeine here; a gentle green-tea lift rather than a herbal wind-down.
Traditionally it is served sweet and poured from a height into tall, slim glasses; the long pour oxygenates the tea and leaves a head of tiny bubbles on top. It is lovely iced, too, and makes a very good cold brew.
"A vibrant, zesty tea with great clarity. The tea base is light, and of great quality. The zestiness of the peppermint is underpinned by a buttery creaminess. The finish of fresh mint is persistent and perfectly delightful. An outstanding example." - Great Taste Awards 2022 (3 Stars)
That three-star award is the highest any of my teas has earned.
