Da Hong Pao 'Big Red Robe'
Perhaps the most famous of all rock oolongs, Da Hong Pao or ‘Big Red Robe’. Grown on the rocky slopes of the Wuyi Mountains of Fujian, China, now a designated UN World Heritage Site, this tea is dark and rich with distinctive mineral notes known as petrichor. Expect a dry tea with notes of dark fruits, a hint of chocolate and a subtly floral finish. Named after the Red Robes of a Ming Dynasty Emporer, Da Hong Pao is steeped in legend and the original 4 mother bushes are highly protected with tea from these bushes fetching in excess of a $1million per kg at auction.
