Jung-Jark Korea Organic

£2.75

An Organic green tea from Jeju Island in South Korea. Tea has been grown in South Korea since it was introduced by Buddhist monks returning from China in the 2nd or 3rd, but was repressed firstly by Confucianism and then by the Japanese invasion in the late 16th Century. In the 1800s tea culture was revived and today a strong domestic market means Korean teas are a rarity internationally. Korean green teas are known as Nokcha, and Puch’o-ch’a refers to the traditional method of roasting the fresh green leaves in a rotating drum of warm air. Much like flushes in Darjeeling, Korean teas are further categorised by when they were made, and Jung-Jark teas are made after the festival of Ipha (5th or 6th of May) but before the 15th May. Expect a tightly curled lightly twisted leaf releasing a buttery smooth tea with a pleasant freshness and subtle umami notes. Best enjoyed without milk and good for multiple infusions.
