Most herbal teas are gentle, mellow things. This is not one of them. It is bold, lively and unapologetic: a rush of fresh peppermint, then a deep, natural sweetness from liquorice root, and an aniseed finish from fennel seeds, with calendula petals for a flash of colour. It is caffeine-free, so you can drink it whenever you like.
I think of it as the herbal equivalent of a cold flannel: a proper jolt of flavour that wakes up your tastebuds. It is the one I reach for in the afternoon, when a gentle cup simply will not do and I want something with real presence and a bit of a kick. Different teas suit different moods, and this is my bold one.
A word of honesty: this is a proper liquorice-lover's tea. If liquorice is not your thing, this is not the one for you. But if you do love it, you will really love it; as one customer put it, it is a bit of a marmite tea. If you are not sure, start with a small slide tin and see.
Warning: contains liquorice. Excessive liquorice consumption can increase blood pressure, so it is best enjoyed in moderation, particularly if you are pregnant or already have high blood pressure.
"An interesting blend: you get the mint on the nose, then the sweetness, and at the end that invigorating hit. It is well-balanced and very pleasant to drink."
