Green Rooibos Organic

£2.75

Most rooibos is red, but this is its lesser-known green sibling. It is the same plant, and the same organic rooibos from the Cederberg region of South Africa as my classic red Rooibos Organic; the difference is all in the processing. Where red rooibos is left to oxidise, which turns it that familiar deep red, green rooibos is heat-treated soon after picking to stop it oxidising, much as a green tea is. That keeps the leaf green and the flavour fresh.

The result is lighter, brighter and more delicate than red rooibos: a pale, refreshing cup with clean, grassy notes rather than the red's deep, sweet richness. One customer describes it as sitting somewhere between a herbal infusion and a green tea, which is a lovely way to put it. Like all rooibos it is naturally caffeine-free, so it is happy at any time of day, and it is especially good served cool on a warm afternoon.

If you would like to know more about rooibos, red and green, where it grows and how it is made, I have written a full guide.

Brew at 100°C for 3 to 7 minutes. It is delicate, so I would skip the milk; enjoy it as it is, or with a little honey or lemon.

A quiet word: I am retiring this one from the range, so the tins I have left are the last of it.

Green rooibos tea

Usually drink Japanese Sencha or Chinese Oolong so thought I'd try it. Very pleasant, especially on a hot afternoon.

Great quality

I love drinking green roiboos as for me it's aroma fits somewhere in between herbal infusion and a normal tea and is an alternative to classic roiboos that I normally drink with milk.
I initially tried it in teabags from another company found in my local greengrocers and was super happy when discovered Team Tea does the loose leaf version.
Excellent quality, fresh, light and comforting.
